The FMCSA Denied Exemption for Small Trucking Companies

The FMCSA Denied Exemption for Small Trucking Companies

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration denied a petition that would have given

small trucking companies an exemption from having to use ELDs in their trucks. The request

was made over a year ago by the Small Business in Transportation Coalition on behalf of

motor companies that have less than 50 employees. The FMCSA reviewed the petition along

with public comments and denied the request because it did not say how many truck drivers

would be impacted. It also didn't mention what small trucking companies would do to

create safety measures that are equal or better than the ELDs system. The Owner-Operator

Independent Drivers Association filed a similar petition but it too was denied by the agency

last year. Learn more here.
