Proposed Reductions for UCR Fees in 2020 and 2021

FMCSA proposed reductions to the Unified Carrier Registration fees for 2020 and 2021. The UCR fees are paid by all

interstate carriers and freight brokers. They proposed that next year's fees would be 12.82% less than 2019's fees.

However, in 2021 the fees would increase again but they would still be 4.19% less than the current fees for 2019. One

Unified Carrier Regulation official believes that an additional 1 or 2% further reduction for 2020 and 2021 might be able

to worked out as well. Whenever the FMCSA releases the final numbers, the deadline for the 2020 fee payments will be

extended past the normal deadline of December 31st. This is because the UCR board wants to give carriers and brokers

at least a 3 month minimum to allow them to make their payments before states can penalize them for not paying their

UCR fees on time. The price of the UCR fees this past year were $62 for carriers that had up to two trucks and it was

$59,689 for carriers that had over 1,000 trucks in their fleet.
