FMCSA requested that SDLAs continue to accept the old medical certificate versions with the 08/31/2018 expiration date
FMCSA recently told state driver licensing agencies that it could accept new driver medical cards that were written on a form showing an expiration date of August 31st this year. The confusion began as the form must be approved every few years by the Office of Management and Budget. FMCSA originally said the forms with the August 31st expiration date could not be accepted after October 4th. The new identical form now has an expiring date of September 30th next year. What was happening is drivers whose medical examiner used the old form were unaware that the state agency had rejected their medical cards and the process of downgrading their CDLs had begun.
