FMCA granted a petition by ATA to preempt California’s meal/break law

FMCSA granted a petition by the American Trucking Associations to preempt the State of California from enforcing its meal and break laws for motor carriers of property operating commercial motor vehicles and subject to the FMCSA’s hours-of-service regulations. FMCSA determined the California rules are more stringent that its regulations without providing additional safety benefits, incompatible with the FMCSA logbook regulations, and an unreasonable burden on interstate commerce.
