2019 end to grandfathered AOBRDs instead of ELDs
The beginning of 2019 signals an end on December16th for interstate carriers to operate grandfathered AOBRDs instead of ELDs. The older electronic devices had a 2-year reprieve from the federal mandate. Also by the end of this year, only 8 states will not have required ELDs for intrastate operations. It is highly recommended that truckers not wait until the last minute to replace their AOBRDs or become compliant with intrastate requirements. Some ELD manufacturers are reporting device shortages as more companies move to install ELDs. Also, be aware that many current ELDs will need upgrades as cellular companies phase out 2G and 3G networks for faster 4G LTE systems.
